Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate or LECA clay balls also called as Hydrotone balls are modern soil-less growing medium, best suited for hydroponic growing systems. These clay balls are incredibly lightweight, making them easy to handle and transport. The porous nature of LECA ensures adequate oxygenation of the roots, promoting healthier root systems and reducing the risk of overwatering. LECA balls are renowned for their excellent drainage properties. Their porous structure allows water to flow through easily, preventing waterlogging and root rot. LECA balls have a neutral pH, making them suitable for a wide range of plants. They don’t alter the acidity or alkalinity of the growing medium, providing a stable environment for plant roots. They are reusable and can be cleaned and sterilized for repeated use. This makes them a sustainable option for plant care and a cost-effective choice in the long run. Bid farewell to traditional soil constraints and embrace the LECA based growing medium for a hassle-free planting experience.

Description

Using LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate) balls is fairly straightforward, especially for hydroponic or semi-hydroponic setups.

Directions for use:

  • Rinse the LECA balls thoroughly to remove any dust or debris. This step is crucial to ensure a clean medium for your plants.
  • Soak the LECA balls in water for a few hours before use. This allows them to absorb water and pre-hydrate, preventing them from drawing moisture away from the plants initially.
  • Fill the bottom of your container or pot with a layer of LECA balls. The depth of this layer will depend on the size of your container and the plant’s root system. Usually, a layer a few inches deep is sufficient.
  • Place your plant on top of the LECA layer gently, ensuring its roots are not cramped or bent.
  • Surround the plant’s root system with additional LECA balls, gently filling the spaces around the roots. Ensure there are no air gaps to support the plant securely.
  • Fill the container with LECA balls, leaving enough space at the top for watering.
  • When watering, pour water gently onto the LECA balls, allowing it to seep through and reach the roots. Ensure the water level doesn’t submerge the plant’s base.
  • Monitor the water level regularly. LECA balls should maintain some moisture but not be waterlogged. Adjust your watering schedule accordingly based on your plant’s needs.
  • Depending on the plant, you may need to fertilize more frequently as nutrients get flushed through the LECA medium more quickly than in traditional soil.
  • After a while, if the LECA balls become dirty or compacted, they can be cleaned and reused. Rinse them thoroughly and let them dry before using them again.

Remember, the specifics may vary based on the type of plant and the setup you’re using. Always consider the specific needs of your plants when using LECA balls and adjust the care accordingly.
